American Flag
The bombardment begins on Sept. 13th.
An unmerciful, brutal attack. Continuous bombing, and deafening noise. One shell after another striking directly, and yet the flag won't fall down.
A shout to comrades below deck, "Still standing!".
Night falls. The glare from the rockets and exploding bombs illuminates the scene, showing that the flag was still there. Numerous direct hits on the flag, but yet, it will not fall down.
Sept. 14th, morning comes. The shelling has stopped, not because of surrender but because the attackers are confused and frustrated, and give up: 25 hours of constant shelling, and still the flag stands.
It's torn, tattered, and almost unrecognizeable.
But still, the flag stands.
